Anytime after the shrub goes dormant would be the least stressful for it and
probably you too!  If you prune it first, you are less likely to have stems
up your nose, and in your ears and eyes while you are moving it. :)

I have a Peegee Hydranga that has outgrown its space and needs to be moved -
when is the best time to do this - fall or spring.  Of course, I also have
to move a lilac and a potentilla to make room for it.
