Hi all,
Hostas, when young, can look different than when they become mature. Maturity
is reached, on average, in 3 - 5 years. August Moon is one of those that
looks different as a youngster.
August Moon does not have a green margin to it. It has a solid color leaf. I
am not an expert on hostas, but I have not heard of AM starting with an edge
then losing it. My guess is a batch of misnamed plants hit the market (it's
been know to happen). It's the only reason I can think of for so many of you
saying you have margined AMs.
Check out http://www.hostalibrary.org/
There are thousands of pictures of hostas there. Picture quality (mainly
color) varies since everyone's cameras are different (blues seem to be the
most difficult). The pics are taken by everyday folks like you and me.
The Sport section of the Library lists 6 sports of AM that have the
yellow/gold center and a green edge - Indiana Moonshine, Lunar Magic, Lunar
Orbit, Lunar Sea, September Sun, and September Surprise.
There are so many hostas that would fit Susan's description that it would be
hard to say just what she has. Sorry......
The joys of gardening?!?!?!
