Gene, I agree, I'm not sure there is a bad one among the lot. 'September Charm' seems to be shorter and less aggressive in my garden -- it is a single medium dusty pink -- and indeed IS charming.
One of my favorite combinations is aconitum carmichaelii arsendii (dark blue flowers with dark leathery foliage, about 6-7' tall) which does not bloom until usually October around here. I grow it with the double white anemone japonica (?) 'Whirlwind' (about 4-5'). One year I also grew with this combination the pineapple sage with its dark red flowers, also a late bloomer around here. Excellent combination. Kinda patriotic too, I guess ;-)
By the way that combination grows in high semi-shade competing with tree roots and comes through with flying colors every year.

Hello Chris,
That is a bit like asking me which of my sons I like the best. I have
had three hybrids in the garden for a few years now. Of those three, I
believe I like A. hybrida 'Honorine Jobert' simply because it is a clean
white when in bloom that will go with anything else as a companion. I
suppose I would have to follow up with A.h. 'Queen Charlotte'. A nice clean
shimmering pink in semi-double form. Flowers can reach over 3 inches across
on this one.
I do not believe there is a "bad" one that I have had the opportunity to
see in a garden. They are all large assertative perennials that will take
the room they need if it is not given to them, but goodness, what a show
from August through October. Try using with aconitum, or monkshood. Adds
tall straight lines to the large rounded clumps of the anemone.
