I grow D. grandiflora (also called D. ambigua), in part shade. It is
definitely perennial--D. mertoniensis, supposed to be perennial, was not.
The grandiflora is a soft and lovely yellow, and if the first bloom is
deadheaded immediately, reblooms now.

perennial, is it? Sun or shade or does it matter?
