Here's a little clematis planting tip I've learned. I always
plant an ajuga at the base of the clematis, just before I've completed
filled up the hole. "Feet in the shade and heads in the sun" is the
saying that describes a good situation for clematis. Always water
thoroughly when you plant and frequently the first few months after
planting. Above all, be patient. Clematis takes a while to establish,
sort of like grape vines, but eventually they become nicer every year.
Put the hibiscus in a nice bright sunny spot and give it
lots of water to establish as well.
