I found the article hilarious. I can relate to a few things that were said.
My garden is part of a big city wide tour coming up on July 14th. They have
given out 1800 tickets, but reassured us the gardens are spread over such a
wide area that probably not more than 300-400 people will make it to any one
garden. Gulp!
I am on countdown now. One big project everyday for the next week and then
its ready or not. Over the years, I've had a lot of tours and visitors and
find people to be 99 & 44/100% polite and complimentary. I've had to ask to
have a dog removed and a couple of children one time, but that is minor.
The thing I hate is to get buttonholed with one person who wants to
monopolize my time. I think it is inconsiderate of all the other folks who
came too. So sometimes I pretend I just saw my long lost best friend,
excuse myself abruptly and go waving and calling across the garden, then out
of sight. This usually works pretty well.
I love Ken Druse's books - The Natural Garden, The Shade Garden (my bible, I
have tons of shade) & The Collector's Garden. He does it all......write,
photograph, propagate and garden. What a guy!

Just a slight disagreement with Druse, who has a very good propagation book
out - lots of pictures, I don't think gardeners mind giving cuttings if it
is
the corrrect time to take the cutting. I don't.
