dahlias, again

Greetings: Several weeks ago I wrote that all my dahlias had lots of
leaves but no buds or blossoms;

now there are some buds showing, at last!

but I now realize that I may have been the one to have retarded the
blossoms, since I was pinching all new growth for a long time after the
pots had been put out in the sun;

this was following advice given in lots of places, so that the plants
would be fuller and stronger, and I've done this every year;

but I noticed that the buds arose in such a way that at first I thought
they were just new leaves tightly wrapped, but it being so late, I
didn't pinch them.

So, the moral of the story is not to keep pinching the leaves past a
certain early date, especially if you live where it's a short growing
season.
