Marge, I kept my vacuum running at half speed.  The hosta leaves went into
the vac, but the plant stood firm.  After I sucked up the leaves and
slugs, I lifted the vac off and the hosta leaves were fine.  Only a couple
with thin substance showed any signs of tatter and that was minor,
especially compared to the slug damage.
