I hope someone has the time to give you a more detailed answer.

At this moment I don't but here is a basic answer.

The lobelias you are talking about are hybrids-some are even complex hybrids, 
but all have genes from a semitropical lobelia that makes them often if not 
most of the time -- less than hardy.
