Hi Gail,
It's definitely a coneflower (Echinacea). The leaves are very
Echinacea purpurea like (although slightly more narrow like
Echinacea pallida).
The ones that you see in the photo behind it are actually a lilac --
Syringa meyeri 'Palibin'.
It looks like the other flowers are opening the same way now as
well.
Donna, I think Razzmatazz has very short 'petals' on top -- they almost
look like modified stamens. Could it be Echinacea 'Fancy Frills'
instead? I'll have to wait and see if the stamens develop on mine
or not.
