Hi Warner,
Wish the garden centres here were better at labelling things, so no, sorry
! ( I've bought madonna lilies which turned out to tigers etc etc) I
checked catmint out in my reference books, and Nepeta Six hills giant and
Nepeta sibirica are listed as the ones to go for. The wimpy version I have
is a one foot clump, the other at least four, and both were planted about
the same time, in the same position, both looking healthy, so it's genetic,
not cultural. My large one is even coping with an invasive lamium
galeobdolon... they go quite well together so I'm leaving them to fight it
out, and hoping neither will win. Have taken soft cuttings of the nepeta,
just in case.
COLOURS There is a yellow flowered version, Nep. govaniana, but I couldn't
find any reference to pink ..... perhaps it's reacting to your soil, like a
hydragea would ? This would make sense only if you are growing on chalk or
another very limey soil....
