I'm sorry, but your friend's hydrangea seems to be of 'lacecap' flower
shape, instead of 'mophead' shape, round and full, that are the ones for
drying. Lacecaps (flat heads made mostly of inconspicuous fertile flowers
and a few sterile flowers on top) are unsuitable for drying, as the fertile
flowers drop off. I like very much the 'mophead' H. 'Madame Emile
Mouilliere', big white flowers than when mature take shades of pink and
green: BEAUTIFUL!. But for drying, why not to try some dark reds or blues?.
much more interesting colours, probably. Hydrangea quercifolia is also good
for drying, as it is Hydrangea paniculata ('Green Spire', 'Pink Diamond'
and 'Brussel's Lace', all superb). tell your friend to buy a 'mophead'
variety or, better still, she may take some cuttings right now from any
plant she miay like: we are in the best time!.

Jose. Northern Spain, zone 9. Oceanic humid climate.
