Re: Suggestions wanted for foliage in the sun.


Mark,
As you are in Ireland, I should imagine you could get away with putting
Hosta and Rodgersia in a fair amount of sun.  I'm a fan of Beth Chatto's
books and she speaks of using these plants in sun in the UK.  

Is your sunny spot damp or dry?  Are you looking only for huge plants?

And what about Artemesia 'Powis Castle'?  My absolute fav.  makes a mound
of fine silver filigree foliage up to 2 feet (60 cm) tall (for me anyway)
that is outstanding.  This one does not travel by underground, just spreads
out via branching, woody stems, and in time can occupy quite a large space.
 It can be curtailed by pruning.  Wants good drainage, but seems to
tolerate a variety of soil conditions and even partial shade - although it
really wants sun.

What about Bergenia?  Large leaves and tolerates sun or shade in the UK, so
I understand.
