You can safely cut back the larger ratty looking leaves. Leave a few of the
smaller new leaves to nourish the plant. Perhaps some annual bedding plant
could help you cover what's left. I love hollyhocks too.... but they have this
problem sometimes and I am thankful that they can be cut back a bit.
