Carmen -
I am in zone 5 - just outside of Milwaukee, WI. I have had great luck with
the hosta under the mature trees as well - and I will add more of these,
but I would really like to add some height! The bugbane (cimicifuga
racemosa) can grow up to 5', and reportedly require no staking!
'Wildflowers in Your Garden' (Viki Ferreniea) describe them as a
'delightful airy display with tall spikes of ivory-whhite flowers casting
wands of light in the earrly summer shade.' Other varieties are shorter
with different bloom times. It says they blend well with many things ...
including large leaved hostas, esp. those of blue foliage. It also says
they are very undemanding - Has anyone worked with these?

I am curious as to what bugbane looks like and what zone
you are in, several areas of my yard are shady and I am always trying new
plants to create
