My mother (who is also on this list) and I grow iresine as a house
plant. I have also used it as an annual with mixed success - I grew it
in too much shade. I'll probably try it in planters or hanging baskets
some year in a sunnier location.
I am fairly certain iresine will not survive a hard winter (although
I've never given it a chance). I've seen iresine growing wild in Nepal
at lower elevations where the climate is somewhat like the Carolinas so
it can probably take a bit of frost.
It propagates very easily from stem cuttings in the spring but not in
the fall (needs lots of daylight). If you like it, I'd definitely bring
it in for the winter. Give it a sunny window and it will be happy.
