Hi Marge and all who are interested
my chelone are in my largest perennial bed and too far from the house to
be watered unless I am in the mood to attach 3 of the longest hoses.
which i never am so as a result they have had only rain water this year,
and they are doing beautifully. when i ordered them several years ago i
hesitated after reading they do prefer a wet shady home but thank
goodness I ordered them none-the less. they have performed just fine and
I have propagated them into several other areas and even had some growing
in pots in my potting shed(it has many sky lights) until very recently.
So my advise is to go ahead and order one next spring.
