Propagating Hosta

Hi Everyone!

A friend of mine wants to propagate Hosta, but not from division.  What
she wants to do is take a leaf or two and maybe some of the root (if she
can get it) from a potted Hosta another friend of hers has.  Will this
work?  I know Hostas are really easy to start from divisions, but I have
never tried starting one from a leaf.

(who is overjoyed at the deal of a lifetime she got yesterday while
visiting a local nursery.  They were giving away plants that hadn't been
watered for a week and were looking a tad unhappy.  Walked away with 30
plants, including 9 I paid for, and only spent $53!!!!!!!  All were
perennials and all in gallon pots.  Immediately sent off a thank you
note!)
