Re: Ipomeoea alba Moonflowers
I grew this as an annual about 10 yrs.ago on the south-facing side of
the deck and it did climb weakly about 8 feet up the trellising,
eventually. I can't remember if I gave it any help like tying it here
and there. It took forever to grow, but when we went away for a week's
vacation in hot August, it must have taken off. When we returned, the
vine had gone crazy. It had grown under and into the deck furniture
backs and legs. I cannot remember either the climbing
mechanism--twisting leaf stems like clematis? And the flowers were
pretty, but wasted, I thought, because we never spent alot of time
outside after dark feeding the mosquitos! And the first light frost
dramatically turned it black!
I now have a grape vine in the same place which is providing a shady
nook at that sunny south end of the deck.
