Mine grows in semi-shade and the ground is
not remotely boggy, but rarely gets very dry,
either. About 10' away from a 100 year old fir
in a raised bed and does fine. So don't wait for
the bog garden! What about a north wall?
Does well there too for me.

I've always been interested in Chelone, but
figured my soil's too dry for
it. Everything/body says "moist" or "wet"....sigh
Maybe when I get my bog
garden dug.
