You might want to check with the state agency who governs the dimensions of
septic fields and their structure. Here in Missouri we just this last year
received regulations on septic fields and there are plants that are
recommended and some that are "do nots". My husband is a licensed installer
but said some states differ and he would not like to give recommendations
for Washington State. I am sure that most perennials would be okay, as to
trees, he is in doubt that there are any acceptable. Tree roots have a
tendency to go to water, in which case, they might grow into the lines and
disrupt the balance or flow. Hope this helps.
