Heat

Finally, some relief from the awful heat and humidity. Thank you, Canada. I ventured
out to the garden for the first time in about two weeks. Oh, my gosh, what a jungle
out there.
I am qualified to write "The Unkempt Perennial Garden" - the phlox is in full bloom,
but is rapidly losing leaves to a severe case of powdery mildew, the daylilies came
and went before I had a chance to enjoy them and now their foliage looks awful, and
the weeds are flourishing. How did all that crabgrass and oxalis get so big in just 2
weeks?

I unfortunately left a few plants of native golden-rod in the farthest bed from last
year - because it looked good next to the "Goldsturm", but it has multiplied too
much, so there is another job to do after it blooms and before it sets seed. The
Virginia Creeper snuck out of the woods and is weaving its way among this same bed.
Tough vine!

Where is my under-gardener?
