Covering w/ anything to lower soil temperatures s/ reduce moisture loss. 
I presume soaker hoses have disappeared from the stores.

A NZ member of our hibiscus mail list has mentioned about using this 
"gray water" and w/ great success. The plants enjoy the bleach and the 
dertergent helps the soil hold water better.
