    Glad I was of some assistance.
    To answer your question. In some cases there may be a bit too much water
in winter. I prefer to keep my plants just a bit on the dry side after they
go into dormancy. Too much water in our winter freezes and thaws can lead to
crown rot. Potting medium is different in its properties than dirt...excuse
me.. soil in the way it handles water and nutrients. Designed for pots and
that environment.
    I am very low tech around here. I walk through the display beds, take a
good look and poke my finger into the medium. If dry to the fist digit it
get watered. With a water wand on the end of a hose. You will learn in time
by look and which plant you are taking care of, how it behaves, its
particular needs.
    Probably like the rest of my relationships.... try to know, love well,
and mostly learn to know when to leave something alone.
