Maybe the difference is that here in Cincinnati we have had very little rain
since April. We are more than 7 inches below normal they say, although it
feels like more than that. My turtleheads do have large buds on them, but
they are still very tight. The kirengashoma buds are quite small. Can't
comment on asters because the deer or groundhogs have eaten mine nearly to
the ground.
