Hi Val, I had to concur with Nan on the Salvias. Out of dozens of choices,
our Hummingbirds always go for the Salvias first -- every color not just the
reds. While on the topic of Hummingbirds (though you might be well over it by
now with all the responses you received)! there are some truly interesting
books about these birds written by Arnette Heidcamp: Hummingbird in My House,
Hummingbirds, My Winter Guests and others; Crown Pub. wonderful accounts of
her incredible experiences with Hummingbirds and great photos. They are super
intelligent creatures in minute bodies!
I used to believe that the hummers'
feeders had to come in after late summer so that they wouldn't be tempted to
stay and have their natural migration patterns fouled up -- not true-
I also thought
that red food coloring in the nectar I made was a must -- also not true-
infact now we're told it could be damaging.
Well, in case you'd like more hummer info I'll add these links most of
which have lists for plants that attract as well.
