Thanks for the link to the picture, Pat. No, this wasn't it.
The insect I saw had 8 wings, two pair on each side of the body.
I would have thought it was a wasp or hornet of some kind but the
body was solid, no "waist," brown & gold striped, over an inch
long. The total wingspan was at least 2 inches, maybe more, wings
were semi-transparent. Have only seen one once, so maybe it was
just passing through... can't get over the loud hum it made. Nothing
like a bee. Anyway, back to perennials -- hosta blooms are fabulous
this year, I agree. Some varieties have such enormous white flowers,
almost 3 inches across. While they do have *some* scent, I don't think
I have any of the really fragrant ones -- what are some of the
favorites out there?
