The "Wise Garden Encyclopedia" says this about coffee grounds:
The appearance is good, the insulation value is fair, cost low, thickness
never more than 1 inch, weed control, good: penetration, fair but may cake:
soil moisture speed, fairly rapid. Use carefully, May prevent ventilation.
Best used in container gardens.
I mix them in with my other compost.
