Re: planting digitalis (foxglove) seed.....was:Hollyhock seeds have germinated!!!!

I'd go ahead and scatter them where you want them to grow now....that's
what MOM nature does. Or, if you want a more controlled planting, plant
them in pots, flats or a prepared nursery bed now. Depending on weather
variables, etc., you will get some germination in a few weeks and probably
some won't germinate until next spring. Those that do germinate now will
overwinter fine outside and can be moved to their permanent home, either
later this fall (if large enough) or next spring for bloom the following
year.

Personally, I simply take the mature seed stalks and wave them around where
I want the plants...then thin them out as the resulting seedlings come up
so thick they look like moss. Sometimes, I am lazy and just let them fight
it out...the strongest will survive...

Oh...leave your pots or flats outside for winter in a sheltered spot where
they will get rained on and just make sure they don't dry out. I cover the
flats with window screening to keep critters and debris out of the pots;
easy to cut and form corners to make flat covers of any height. Tack the
corners together with fine wire so they hold shape.
