Re: bulb planting tools ?

Beth, i can tell you from experience with tons of bulbs, if you have clay,
forget the bulb augers that attach to your corded or cordless drill, unless
you have had tons of rain this fall or spend a fortune absolutely drenching
your soil.. I dig with a sharp pointed hand spade a space about the diameter
of a salad plate about 6 -8 inches down in the lawn to naturalize and plant
3-5 bulbs with a little bulb booster, water, then refill with a mixture of 1
part of the soil, 1 part peat moss, and 1 part humus. After all of the
random spots are watered, I water again thoroughly and sprinkle with human
hair from the beautician to keep the squirrels away (on all but
daffodils-they dont need it). this seems to work best for me after trial and
error (and too much money spent on tools).

Subject: bulb planting tools ?

| I just went crazy, ordering wayyyy too many bulbs to plant this fall.
| Many will be planted in my flower borders, but I will plant some to
| naturalize in grass. Question - what's your favorite tool for planting
| bulbs - I see a number of special tools advertised for this purpose. Any
| words of wisdom to make the process go as simply and easily as possible?
|
| Thanks !
