Paul, Do you have a cold frame? or is that a peculiarly New England thing?
To make one
is truly easy - I've done it with cement building blocks and heavy duty
clear plastic
sheeting. Locate a south east exposure (morning sun only - at least here).
Arrange enough
blocks to put your plants inside square (rectangle, whatever) and drape
plastic over the top, tucking in under the outside on one side. Put
unfrozen dirt, ground up leaves or cold (i.e. finished) compost in and
nestle your pots into the soil and loosely drape the plastic over the top.
If these are tall plants, you may want a second layer of blocks on one or
two sides, so the plants and plastic don't meet.

I have grown foxgloves (with mixed success), but don't recognize either
Digitalis davisiana or
Sistrinchium striatum as such.
