Re: garden reading, no typos

LOL Paul,

I've kept plants a lot of places, but admit had not thought of the
back of my car:-)

Sounds like it's straw bale time. Can you get your hands on some of
the nice, old fashioned bales of straw? You can rig a temp. cold
frame easily with those and they do provide some insulating value.
Run a few boards over them and drape with plastic and some old rugs
or blankets. You might even try a layer of bubble wrap or a few
sheets of Styrofoam insulation board on the top if those are
doubtfully hardy for you..I don't know that Digitalis.

Oddly enough, I have found that dormant perennials and even evergreen
azaleas come through fine in a sunken cold frame covered with black
plastic and a few layers of old rugs. No light until the thaw.
Strange, but it does work. They even come through uncovered in my
climate, but yours is much colder than mine.

Learned about this from a local nursery who piled all their unsold
pots of everything in the middle of the outdoor display area and
covered them with black plastic. You'd think it would kill them, but
they all survived to be displayed for sale the next year.
