Perennial Plant of the Year....


** For the first time since the program began in 1990,
Perennial Plant 
Assoc. named a fern as its Perennial Plant of the
Year. Japanese painted 
fern, Athyrium nipponicum 'Pictum,' was selected as
the 2004 winner. It 
reaches 12-18 inches tall and wide and grows best in
partial to full shade 
and moist, organic soils. Its fronds contain shades of
gray, green, red and 
purple and it's hardy in Zones 4-9. The 2003 winner is
Leucanthemum x 
superbum 'Becky.' http://www.perennialplant.org
