Re: Content of ideal magazine

Hello Bill,
As both a garden writer and a reader of gardening publications, I
seriously doubt we will get our wish. There are simply far too many
gardeners who want the byte article over the in-depth approach. Were it not
so then the gardening magazines would be otherwise. They do try to provide
what people read and respond to. When I write an article and send it to the
editor I accept the fact that it no longer belongs to me. Do my best to turn
it loose as I know it has to go through a filter called an editor.
American culture fought long and hard to have everything become a "happy
medium"... unfortunately they got most of what they wanted. But, you know,
that is not all bad. Everyone has to begin someplace. There are more
specialized publications out there if ones wants to dive a bit deeper into
the pool of knowledge.
I do feel that you are and will be seeing some changes in the garden
publications. the internet is nipping at the heels of the hard copy
industry. They are going to have to react faster to changes in the
information flow that is out there if they are to survive.
I am just happy to be around to experience it all.... exciting times in
the gardening world.
