Re: New Plants for spring

Well,
I stumbled upon some new species and hybrid asters this year. Or they
kept popping up in my life until they caught my attention. I had give up on
our species aster and its hybrids in my gardens and JoAn removed them from
her garden as well. We both loved the blooms, but they always went woody
just as they came into bloom and had brown crispy unsightly legs.A friend
brought me a division of Aster tataricus "Jindai" and I am once more in love
with aster. Stays bright green in foliage all year. Heavy bloomer, reaches
about 6 or 7 feet with no blow-over when in bloom. When at a symposium I
came across two hybrids from A. tataricus and purchase one of each for
trials. Absolutely wonderful. Stayed under two feet, bright green textured
foliage with heavy blooms from June through last killing freeze. And... now
that I have opened my mouth... I can not locate my notes with the names...
From Heines nurseries release this past spring. I will be back with more
when my senior moment passes....
meanwhile, all the best to you and your gardens.
