Re: Liriope & ophiopogon

I, too, planted a Black Mondo grass and had it for two years. It grew so
very slowly that it was still about the same size when it died as it was
when I bought it. It was pretty but to me, not worth the fuss. I grow the
dwarf mondo grass and it is very prolific and spreads slowly. The liriope
here in zone 6 is the clumping kind and grows in sun or shade. The deer
usually eat mine down every winter and they come back stronger than ever. I
divide them periodically and needless to say, have a lot to share with
garden clubs, etc. I have some planted in pure clay and some in full sun,
and some in shade. They don't seem to mind where they are. Just grow and
grow. I have both the giant liriope lily turf and the smaller variety,
which I don't at this moment know it's name.
They do make good groundcovers. Wishing you success. Jean Carpenter.
