Hi Dee Ann,
I can recommend Marie Selby Botanical Garden in Sarasota from personal
experience, it is absolutely beautiful, loaded with tropical plants. It is
even better if you can manage to hit it during one of the semi-annual plant
sales (late spring and early fall, I think). It is on the Gulf coast and will
be about a four hour drive from Vero Beach.
Also, at the risk of sounding totally commercial, do not underestimate the
gardens at Disney World, particularly Epcot. They have a flower and garden
festival from late April through early June that is spectacular and gets
better every year. They also have guest speakers and tours (for a nominal
extra charge).
