Re: Crested Iris

Hello Betty,
Thee are some 5 species of crested Iris around the world to collect. Our local
native is the Iris cristata. Forms a ground cover in open shade such as the open
edge of the woods. Wonderful little iris beneath shrubs and small trees. There are
many named forms of I. cristata in the nursery trade. I carry the species form our
local woods, and a white form called White Angel. In my holding area I have about
8 more forms growing in stock pots until they get numerous enough to divide and
pot up.
The largest crested iris is the Chinese (Japanese) Roof Iris, I. tectorum. It,
too, can be found in a blue and a white form.
