On the subject of no color pics, I ordered 7 geraniums from Heronswood
a couple of years ago, relying only on the wonderful blurbs. What a
treat! A couple of the oxonianum varieties bloomed literally all
summer, and an incanum, tender here, looked fabulous in a pot. (I think
it was incanum - don't see it in this year's catalog.) Last year, I
ordered two "urn collections" from the Glasshouse Works, who specialize
in tropical plants. Got 10 or so completely unknown tropicals that gave
me joy all summer, in large pots with lilies. Will do this again this
year.
I was always an "I have to see it before I buy it" kind of gardener
before, but now I plan to save a part of the plant budget each year to
take a chance on unknowns. You know the saying: The only way to know a
plant is to grow a plant. This has really expanded my horizons. Try
it!
