I would like a different shape and complementary color.  What about Liatris
spicata 'Kobold'.  Or a dwarf Balloon flower (Platycodon 'Sentimental Blue")
which is under 12" and will bloom prolifically through July and August.  Or a
Scabiosa (which needs a loy of deep dead-heading) or perhaps a sedum, if you can
find the right color to go with the Corepsis.
