Mary,
I have rarely had oriental lilies live more than 2 or 3 years either. I have
a pink one going on about 4 years (if it returns) from B&D Lilies out of
Washington State.
My Asiatic lilies have lived in the same place for a decade and just thrive
and reside. I have had some aurelian varieties (the trumpet shaped) do the
same.
I guess it is just the type.
Another thing with lilies. I feel its best to plant them in the fall. I
believe that orientals are stem rooting lilies so they get a good start
producing a good root system under cool conditions in the fall. Lilies I have
planted in the spring just do not do as well.
