My friend grew up on a horse farm where mares were brought in to breed. They
collected semen "manually" (the cow party doll sounds better!).

If you are really interested in knowing I can tell you. They have a
dummy cow that the bull mounts. It has a dummy - uh, "receptacle" -
that collects the semen. Actually quite simple......
