Anthriscus sylvestris 'Ravens Wing'
"Cow parsley" or "Wild Chervil" A very attractive plant with dark purple-bronze foliage. The foliage grows from 8 to 18 inches tall and produces flowering stems up to 3 feet tall. The flowers are small, white in color and begin blooming in June. The flowers are produced on much branched umbels (like a carrot). Nice thick bushy growing plants with foliage that looks much like a Cimicifuga. This plant has a nice dark color for the garden to offset white Hosta. Plants can grow up to 2.5 feet wide. Open shade to sun. Likes a rich, moisture retentive soil. This is an annual to biennial to short lived perennial and were happy will self sow.
The green form is a weed in the pacific states. In the spring the foliage starts out a dark green and by mid summer it has developed its rich dark color. If you do not allow plants to flower and set seed, this will encourage plants to be more perennial. 10 percent or so of seedlings will be the all green form-these should be culled out and thrown away. Native from Europe and western Asia. Zones 3-8. Germinates in 1-3 months at 70°F after 5 weeks in the fridge.
