Gazing Balls?

Good Day!
Lots of beautiful sunshine here and my first Hellebore is blooming!
For Valentine's Day, my SweetHart bought me a beautiful Gazing Ball and Pedestal that I have been lusting after for years!
But I've been afraid to buy one for fear it would get knocked off and smashed!! So now I am contemplating how to prevent that.
I've had visions of kids playing catch with it which is probably pretty unlikely, maybe, or, more likely, me bumping it.
Aside from putting it somewhere that would give it a soft landing, what else can I do?
I've always said I would glue it in the base but now I'm not sure I want to do something so permanent.
The base has 3 adhesive strips where the ball fits in.
What is your experience and what would you suggest?
