Re: Hydrangea 'Bailmer' aka Endless Summer

This confuses me as I picked up an
informational sheet on this plant which is labeled Endless Summer (Tm)
Hydrangea, (2nd line) Hydrangea macrophylla, 'Bailmer' PPAF. This is to be
released 2004 and is hardy to zone 4. This is one that we in the cold north
should look for next year. Wow!

Sorry to be so long getting back - on the road again. Endless summer will be the marketing name and programme but the plant is registered under 'Bailmer'. While confusing to consumers this is common in the plant world - particularly roses. 'Bailmer' is never going to be a winning name for a marketer as you'll quickly agree - which would you purchase flower unseen 'Bailmer"? or Endless Summer? :-))

The breeders don't necessarily think of marketing when they are naming their plant and the marketers don't often like the names the breeders pick. :-) So, we get two names.

And yes, "wow" is the term to use. My cutting has been upgraded to a 2gal pot and is starting to throw new leaves he notes quite happily. :-)
