I prune mine back to 2' or so in Feb. and get all that growth in one year. I am in Oregon, however.

I grow my Polish Spirit against a split rail fence. It reaches the top and
makes a big clump there so I have a big ball of purple flowers. If left to
climb higher, it might well reach 10-15 feet.
