Here is a new phlox offered by Darwin Plants, a Dutch company marketing in
the US.

Scroll down on the left and select phlox. Look for the Feelings series:
Empty Feelings, Red Feelings and Natural Feelings. Three are offered, four
others coming from a breeder named Rene van Gaalen.
The "what is new" part is that these phlox have long lasting bracts producing
the color with tiny flowers within the bracts. As far as I can remember, I
haven't seen this phlox offered previously. It is a Phlox paniculata hybrid.
The same large flower trusses but longer lasting in the garden.
There are several salvias grown for the same reasons and they very
satisfactory and long lasting color in a garden. Phlox being a native
American and midsummer bloomer, these would offer a spot giving some color
with little attention beyond bring them to bloom. Also not too tall.
I have not seen them in a retail catalog but hope to see them on a stand
somewhere this spring. Of the many, many, overwhelmingly many new offerings,
I liked this one best. Anything that grows in zone 4 is worth a look.
Maybe Salix integra 'Flamingo' for the fans of 'Hakuro Nishiki'. There is
more intense color, it is supposed to be a bit shorter and is every bit as
exotic in a northern garden. I would like find this one somewhere also.
Maybe the spring shows.
