Well, considering you aren't too concerned about slug resistance it 
shouldn't be a long job. All of the traits you want are present right 
now............only they are spread across quite a few species that aren't too 
keen about swapping them. I'd say, without GE, we could be shipping seed 
by the end of this millennium for sure. Do you want to put in a forward 
order? :-)

The English Hybrid type delphinium is such a mixed up character already 
that its  relatively easy to make inroads selecting for say, drought tolerance 
on a minor scale; that is producing a plant that will give a few days leeway 
in dry conditions and not collapse, but true hardiness to heat and drought - 
that's another thing - and I'm not into GE

I loved Don's comments about slugs hyped up on coffee. There's a film in 
that ideab somewhere.
