There is a "tangled mess" Carex that goes bt the name 'Frosty Curls'. If
the same as the tangled mess, I must admit, I like it. A bit of sun and the
sweep of leaves glisten. greenish silver if you ask me. It is fairly easy
to find companions. Now for the brown Carexes.......As far as I know there
are two and both are zone 7 plants. With a little luck, they will survive in
zone 6..........but as the lady said, "How do I know if it's dead?"
Carex buchanii is a twlve inch tall browner, rather upright. Carex comans is
a brown mound at about 8 inches for me. Though they look dead and I surely
don't know how to tell for sure, they do look good with golden plants and
actually not that horrible with green. The brown is almost a bronzy gold.
Fun to experiment with.
