I don't think with the account you have giving you need to learn to do things
"right". Have you looked into or read the theory or germination wherein the
seeds germinate best around the rim of the pot (using a clay pot). Those in
the center do not germinate by percentage any where near those on the edge.
The theory involved moisture with superior drainage, heating and cooling
efficiency and other things quite esoteric. Nonetheless, seed do germinate
around the rims or in plastic in certain areas in at a high percentage in one
spot when they have been sown equally in the flat or pot.
Paul I am going to guess that you live alone. When I did a lot of seeds in
the house, there was quite a bit of complaining from the family. It seems
they believed they were more deserving of the various places I chose than the
seeds. It is the saving grace of winter in the North, to watch the seeds
germinate. If some come up too early, what do they know? <VBG>
